This series of photos was taken during several years over each season. Stems are so elegant and beautiful. They come in so many different varieties and it always amazes me how much life there can be in the middle of winter, even in northern climates where everything is apparently dead.

Looking at stems en mass through the macro lens, is like looking through a kaleidoscope. As you turn the focus ring, the art of nature changes constantly.
