Ayers Rock | Uluru (one and the same to me and you) by  Lisa Dangerfield – There are so many painted and photographic images of this amazing rock that I decided to challenge myself by creating my version! I actually did the climb (only as far as chicken rock I’m afraid) many years ago when the public was permitted to do so. I also did the motor bike ride around the base of the rock but unfortunately didn’t take too many photographs so this is my personal interpretation of what I can recall!

Uluru is also known as Ayers Rock, it was named by William Gosse in 1873 after Sir Henry Ayers, however Uluru is the Aboriginal and official name.

It is a massive sandstone monolith in the heart of the Northern Territory’s arid “Red Centre”. It originally sat at the bottom of a sea, but today stands 348m above ground. One of the most startling Uluru facts however, is that some 2.5kms of its bulk is underground.

Uluru is sacred to indigenous Australians and is thought to have started forming around 550 million years ago.

This painting is signed on the front and a laminated, numbered Certificate of Authenticity is included.
