In Japanese culture, Koi are symbolic of perseverance and strength, in times of adversity. This is because of their tendency to swim upstream, against the flow of water. I have painted Koi fish so many times over the years as they are one of my favourite references. I find that watching koi swim through the water is as captivating as watching the flames of a campfire. I also love them for their vibrant colour and enjoy the challenge of capturing their energetic movements, on canvas. This artwork has many layers of coloured glazes, achieving a beautiful depth of colour and texture. Sides painted, sealed with 2 coats of UV protective varnish.
