Before the Clearing soft pastel painting by Bernadette Meyers

In this series of mixed media pastel paintings, I’ve aimed to express the feeling of being in the Australian bush. I enjoy the scent of eucalyptus leaves, the soft touch of the breeze on my face, the gentle sound of leaves rustling and beautiful bird calls.

I’ve used watercolour to create a dreamy underpainting and then added soft pastel pigment directly over using light, delicate strokes which are sometimes partially transparent to express the feeling lightness of spirit in the bush.

Pigment, watercolour and soft pastel on acid-free, archival paper.
