Cockatoos Crackle by Deborah Lang – I love cockatoos they are my favourite Australian bird…

I’m from New Zealand and as a kid one of my fond memories was of a cockatoo called ‘Pickles’ that lived in the local hotel, he’s actually still there and has been since 1984!  He was the first cockatoo that I had ever seen in real life and I loved going there to say hello to him, I also wanted to let him out of his cage as I’d prefer him to be free!  When I moved to Australia 20 years ago I loved seeing wild cockatoos flying freely and still do to this day!  They are just beautiful.

I wanted to capture their cheeky nature, they are perched on sprawling branch…I wanted to do a modern take with my Urban Pop Art Style, the highly textured birds really pop out at you, and the tree with thrown black paint adds movement to the piece.

It has been finished with satin varnish, signed on the front ‘Debstar’ my street name 🙂 and is ready to hang.
