Elements by Cathy Gilday – Elements is a conceptual artwork, representing the two opposites, water and fire.

I have to confess that for many years, I was one of those people who never quite “got” the ‘Colour Field,’ artworks, that often take pride of place in galleries. Mostly painted on huge canvases with no real content to speak of, the artist concentrating mainly on colour and texture .
A few years ago, I was encouraged to look into this style of art and I have to say that I think it’s quite misunderstood. Appearing simple, until you actually have a go at creating a piece and realise it’s quite the opposite. I am currently in the process of painting a series in this style and I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge. Realising that not all homes have large wall spaces, I have purposely chosen small to mid sized canvases, whose content relate to each other, which I think can still make a contemporary space pop!
