“Echoes Of The Past” from the “Aging In Stillness”  by Sanae Hayashi – The collection explores the stages of aging through the lens of wabi-sabi.

Entering her 40s, Sanae felt the shock of physical and emotional change, followed by confusion, reflection, and eventually calm. This collection follows that journey: early works unsettled and questioning, then gradually embracing quiet confidence.

Inspired by the writings of wabi-sabi researcher Shoyou Morigami, who described wabi-sabi as a way of living quietly and calmly, with steady strength and wisdom, Sanae’s work explores acceptance and resilience.

Rather than chasing perfection or external validation, she reflects on the shift that comes with age — finding balance, self-respect, and quiet pride in the present moment.

This piece expresses both the modest, softer side of womanhood and the grounded independence that grows with time. It captures the inner space she moves toward — one of calm acceptance in the process of aging.
