Green sea turtles are one of my favourite subjects to paint. My love with turtles started during a visit to Mon Repos where we could watch the turtles making their way from the beach to their nesting areas and lay their eggs. Turtles migrate long distances to feed, often crossing entire oceans, before returning home again to nest. Six of the world’s seven species of marine are breeding in Queensland. But these cute creatures are endangered by the pollution of the oceans worldwide.When turtles mistake floating plastics for a delicious Jellyfish, they really are in jeopardy.
This original mixed media painting ‘In Jeopardy’ is a water colour painting in the colours of the ocean on a 210mm x 520mm x 3mm Masonite Board. It was embellished with a image of a turtle and clear plastic was added to emphasise how easy turtles can mistake these plastics for floating Jellyfish.
It is finished with 2 layers of gloss acrylic varnish for protection and framed with a recycled 260mm x 560mm x 20mm black/white frame, allowing you to hang it immediately. No mat or glass provided.
