Additional Information

Three Phase by Chris Winer –  is an original oil on canvas.

The most complete self portrait Chris Winer has painted from the literal to the suggestive, its all here if you care to look.

This is the first work the artist approached after his stroke in 2016, and having to learn to paint again, which as it has turned out, not a bad thing artistically, though the brush will just drop from his fingers mid brush stroke, which sparked the idea for long runs/dips of colour which would become so prevalent in his later works.

Chris has placed himself with his animal companions that have shared his studio with him, that have in their own way help foster his artistic endevours. Chris wears garments suggestive of himself as artist, as a celebrant/funeral director, and a fool, as Chris can be all these things.

There is the screaming face of the artist mid stroke, when all faculties are no longer his, just an uncontrollable roar of electricity and fusion as his body convulses and shatters itself. Then a portrait as the artist see’s himself post stroke, simple, happy and full with life. These two portraits stand behind the third, the artist as a young man, seeing the world through the colours of his palette.

Magpie’s are Chris’s fav Aus bird, enjoying their song and personality, they are a bit of a talisman for Chris and re-occur in his work. In this work he has cloaked his damaged form in the wings of their healing embrace.

You will also see a number of tattoo’s on the artist of himself as a baby, some of his pets from child to adult, his wife, birth signs and Diana the Huntress, on his belly, which is swollen with the life the artist has lead, whilst also suggesting a rich inner life. Chris was born in the Year of the Snake and hence the prominant snake tattoo on his arm.
