Tomorrow’s Vintage by Cathy Gilday  As a child, my father always had a grape vine growing in the garden and like many Italian’s families, we followed the wonderful yearly ritual of wine making. Perhaps that is why, I have always had a fascination with the beauty of this fruit, particularly the way it hangs like pendulums from the vine. The ancient Greeks & Romans considered grapes to be a gift from the Gods. Grapes almost always featured in the old “Masters” paintings and is a popular still life subject for artists everywhere. In this work, I have applied many layers of overlapping coloured glazes. This makes the rich colours of the fruit and leaves, really pop against the dark shadowy background.
