Winter Serenity by Bernadette Meyers, fine art photographer.

We needed to travel from Munich to Toulouse, so decided the most scenic route was via the wonderful slow trains, through Switzerland. We had 3 days of travel and they were mostly misty. It’s always a challenge photographing out of train windows as the scenery whizzes past. But it’s an opportunity to capture the essence of a place.

I’m not sure where all the birds go in cold countries during winter, probably somewhere warmer and more hospitable, but it always seems so quiet. The feeling I get in the alps is one of calm, unhurried security. An eternal sense that all the clutter of city life is superfluous. There is so much beauty in the simplicity of nature. And the sheer scale of it is reassuring.
