Sigrid Patterson is a Northern New South Wales artist who creates Australian native scenes and still lifes.
“One of my favourite ways to work is with thick pure oil impasto, palette knives and fingers.”
Artworks: 16
Sigrid Patterson works with oils and acrylics representing texture and reflection. She brings these into her works through the translucent smoothness of glass, woody elements of many of our Australian flowers, nuts and bark, delicate petals and moody backgrounds.
A strong connection with nature has inspired Sigrid to continue the role of flowers in symbolising many milestones and emotions in our lives to using flowers as story tellers. The secret language of flowers, many of her works have stories interwoven through the paintings. These stories are an exploration of issues including the environment, sustainability, equality, diversity and the disconnect between ancient knowledge and modern methods of caring for our lands, seas and communities.
“All of my works use professional artist quality, archival paints and high quality canvas and linen with many made specifically for my pieces. My larger works have hardwood stretcher bars to maintain shape and all frames are high quality Tasmanian oak or Blackwood. My acrylic paintings are varnished with archival varnish and the oil pieces other than impasto works, are oiled out. The large impasto pieces are pure oil paint.”
