70’s Bright Double Pop and the Nasturtiums by Alicia Cornwell

Measuring 35.6cm (W) x 35.6cm (H) x 3.5cm (D) this is an original oil painting on stretched canvas.

My current works in oils are exploring my interest in Vintage and Antique fabrics sourced from my extensive range I have collected over many years.

Before moving to painting full time, I worked as an Antique dealer / Vintage merchant supplying beautiful items for interior design. As a result I have quite the collection of special pieces and am enjoying mixing their unique qualities as subject matter into my artwork.

In the depths of winter here in our cold climate garden, flowers are few however the Nasturtium continues to flower with even the smallest amount of sunshine.

For this painting I picked a few and put them in a vintage glossy blue creamer dating from the 1950’s.

To the background two original 70’s barkcloth fabric designs taken from a swatch that was a lucky find at a local garage sale. I love the pops of retro red against the greens in this one.
