Additional Information

All Lit Up is a medium, portrait format contemporary floral work in acrylic and oil pastel on deep sided stretched cotton duck, featuring full bloom roses in hot, luscious colours such as yellows, pinks, reds and oranges against a cream and turquoise background. This work is unframed but ready to hang. The painting is continued on the canvas sides.

The inspiration for this painting came from the roses in my own garden, plentiful and in full bloom. I wanted to create a warm, comforting painting that would bring a smile to people’s faces.

The paint was applied with brushes, but incorporating textured strokes for the roses and broad brush strokes for the greenery and background. The roses have been highlighted with oil pastels. The result is a contemporary approach to an impressionistic floral work.

I love the beauty of floral works and the power they have to bring joy to the viewer. Floral subjects also demand that the artist explore colour and texture combinations. I have especially sought to capture the open faced stance of the roses at their prime before they drop their petals, showing the transient nature of blooms.
