Italy is famous for its colourful buildings and a visit to Venice would not be complete without a trip to Burano. The buildings’ vibrant colours bring a feeling of instant happiness to me and, in this period of time where international travel is not yet on the agenda, a painting can revive those memories. Knife painting is wonderfully liberating as it forces the painter to be minimalistic and I particularly like it in the context of buildings and the aging walls and bright colours with terracotta – typical of these locations.
