Additional Information

‘Crimson’ is based on a photo I recently took of this beautiful bird in my backyard in the Illawarra.

This piece was recently a finalist in the Camberwell Art Prize in Victoria.

The paper elements were created using torn and cut papers. Recycled then assembled from various magazines, books, maps, brochures and pics to create this one of a kind original artwork. The process for this piece involved drawing the outlines in marker directly onto the canvas to create the composition. Then slowly adding paper/paint to gradually layer the canvas and fill in the details. The layered paper brings a nice textural quality to the work. I am drawn to the random nature of collage and the merging of unrelated elements to create something new.

The piece is on stretched canvas. 2 coats of gloss varnish have also been applied to protect the artwork. The gloss finish really makes the colours pop and gives the work a glassy finish. It has a wire at the back and the collage continues on the edges so it is ready for your walls.

Thanks for checking it out. Cheers Darren
