‘Cubed’ by Darren King

Exclusive to Art Lovers and currently featuring in the ‘Somewhere Like Home’ exhibition in their Melbourne gallery.

This pop art, nostalgia-driven statement piece is designed to spark conversation and reward close inspection.

Created using acrylic paint, vintage wallpaper, and layered paper collage, the artwork features rich surface texture and depth. The composition is filled with odd, playful, and seemingly random details, some partially obscured by paint, others left fully visible, encouraging the viewer to look longer. Subtle 1980s film references are woven throughout, incorporating text and imagery from cult classics such as Scarface, E.T., Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Naked Gun, and The Lost Boys.

All collage elements are sourced from discarded books, junk mail, packaging, comics, maps, and vintage magazines. Reusing and reinvigorating materials that would otherwise be thrown away.

The artwork has been sealed with three coats of gloss varnish for protection and durability. The gloss gives the piece a glassy finish that really makes the colours pop. The edges are painted, and a wire is fitted to the back, making it ready to hang.

Thanks for checking it out. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to discuss a commissioned piece for your home.

Cheers Darren
