Additional Information

Delight is a small, square format contemporary floral art work in acrylic on deep sided stretched cotton duck, featuring magenta and pink roses against a cream and pale blue background. Fluoro pink is used in the under painting to make this work pop. This work is framed in a bleached oak box frame.

The inspiration for this painting came from the roses in my own garden, plentiful and in full bloom. I wanted to create a vibrant coloured painting that still depicted the abundant, full body and structure of the roses. The roses are in a clear container.

The paint was applied with large brushes and fingers using broad, textured strokes for the roses and broad brush strokes for the greenery and background. The result is a contemporary approach to a contemporary, impressionistic floral work.

I love the beauty of floral works and the power they have to bring joy to the viewer. Floral subjects also demand that the artist explore colour and texture combinations. I have especially sought to capture the open faced stance of the roses at their prime before they drop their petals, showing the transient nature of blooms.
