Additional Information

Gum Blossoms is a medium sized work in a horizontal, landscape format, painted in acrylic on deep sided stretched cotton duck. The painting features blossoms of Corymbia ficifolia, the red flowering gum. This work is unframed, with raw canvas sides, but is ready to hang on deep sided canvas. The inspiration for this painting came from a visit to Western Australia where I observed the most spectacular flowering gums, so much so that when I returned home I had to purchase one for my home garden. This work employs texture on the blossoms themselves and the highlights.

I love the beauty of floral works and the power they have to bring joy to the viewer. Floral subjects also demand that the artist explore colour and texture combinations. I have sought to capture movement in this painting as well as the fragility and transient nature of blooms.
