Additional Information

Lachlan Dreaming – Overview – is a medium sized work in rectangular, horizontal, landscape format. Painted in professional acrylics on deep sided artist quality, stretched cotton duck.

Painting technique

The painting features an abstracted, expressive image of the Lachlan River at Forbes NSW. This work is unframed, with raw, clean canvas sides, and is ready to hang. The colours feature warm blues with pinks, ochres and pastels with Prussian Blue shadows. The paint was applied by brush using free, expressive and textured marks and strokes. Sometimes I even use my fingers to apply paint, to get as close as possible to the work, putting my DNA  into the painting. There is a lusciousness to applying paint with your hands.

Painting Inspiration

The inspiration for this painting comes from wandering the stock route that runs alongside the Lachlan River near Forbes in the central west of NSW. I love painting the environment, particularly the central west of NSW where I live. While the painting gives the impression that there is a lot of water in the river, this hasn’t been the case for over three years due to the drought. Recent rain has however replenished the river. The inspiration comes from the early evening light catching the water surface. I teased the shapes apart and put them back together with colour providing the structure that holds and balances the painting and allows the images to emerge. The abstracted nature of the work enables the viewer to insert themselves into the work and create their own story.
