Additional Information

Red Glory is a medium, landscape format, expressive botanical artwork in acrylic on deep sided artist quality, stretched cotton duck.  This painting features large red waratahs, offset by a teal background. This work is unframed but ready to hang. The painting has raw and clean canvas sides.

The inspiration for this painting came from the amazing impression that waratahs make on mass. On my travels to Sydney I often pass these incredible flowers in the Blue Mountains. They grab attention, tall, stark, elegant. I wanted to create something bright and happy that can bring joy to viewers. We all need a bit of joy and sunshine in our lives, particularly when times are grim, as they are now with COVID-19.

The painting is expressive and textured completed in an abstract, contemporary style.  Paint was applied with large brushes and even my fingers.  I used broad, textured strokes for the flowers. I often use my fingers when painting as it allows me to get even closer to my paintings, intimately feeling the texture and lusciousness of the paint. Paint colours include reds, cream, turquoise, pale olive green, pale blue, white, Prussian blue. The result is a contemporary approach to an impressionistic floral work.

I love the beauty of floral works and the power they have to bring joy to the viewer. Floral subjects also demand that the artist explore colour and texture combinations. I have especially sought to capture the beauty of these flowers in a way that is abstracted, free and expressive.
