Additional Information

White Iris is a large, square format floral work in acrylic on deep sided stretched cotton duck, featuring white iris against a turquoise and olive background. This work is unframed but ready to hang. The canvas sides are clean and raw.

The inspiration for this painting came from the irises in my own garden and also the iris paintings by Vincent Van Gogh. The paint was applied with a palette knife using broad, textured strokes for the irises and broad brush strokes for the greenery. The result is a contemporary approach to impressionistic floral works.

I love the beauty of floral works and the power they have to bring joy to the viewer. Floral subjects also demand that the artist explore colour and texture combinations. I have especially sought to capture movement in this painting as well as the transient nature of blooms.
