‘The Climbing Tree’ (Sandgate) – by artist Eileen Scrymgeour Rigby

Trees along the foreshore of Sandgate, Queensland had heaps of potential for climbing, sitting, reclining and even having a picnic on them but this one was deemed the most suitable for climbing. It is a study for larger works but a happy little painting just on its own. The days when children climbed trees with everyone’s blessing were so good and some grown ups are still happy to allow their children to go ahead and have good wholesome fun. Sandgate is my happy place and so I share my experiences on canvas but the painting is also a work of textures, colour and values – artistic elements that I love to explore. Two coats of matt varnish.
